Privacy policy

thruData LLC makes RAGScape. This page explains what our website and software collect and where it goes. In short: RAGScape keeps your documents on your own PC, and we don't sell or rent personal information or use it for advertising.
thruData LLC and this website
- Preview sign-up. If you sign up for the Preview, we keep your email address, and your name if you give it, to email you once when the Preview is ready. Our web host, Netlify, stores sign-ups in the United States under its data processing agreement with us, checks them for spam using Akismet, and sends each one to our mailbox. Once that email has gone out, we delete the list and those copies.
- Visits. This site uses no cookies, analytics or advertising (see Cookies). Like any web host, Netlify processes visitors' IP addresses to deliver and protect the site.
- Email. If you email us, we keep your message only as long as we need it to reply.
Cookies
This website doesn't use cookies. It has no analytics, ads or tracking, and it loads nothing from other websites. That's why there's no cookie banner.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. We don't track visitors across websites, sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising, so there's nothing for these browser signals to turn off. The site works the same whether or not your browser sends them.
RAGScape
RAGScape runs on your Windows PC. Your documents, their index, your questions and RAGScape's answers are stored there. There's no telemetry or usage tracking, and you don't need an account with us.
Only these features connect to the internet:
- Setup and updates. RAGScape downloads its files and AI models and checks for new versions. These requests send nothing about you or your documents.
- Web search (optional, off by default). You approve each search term, and only that term goes from your PC directly to Tavily, the search provider. Your documents are never sent. Web results are marked and cited separately from your documents.
- Remote Access (optional, off until you turn it on). Use RAGScape from your phone's browser. The connection is encrypted from your phone to your PC. Our relay passes it through without decrypting it, so we can't read your questions, answers or documents. To route the connection, our server keeps a random device ID, your device's web address, its certificate status and the keys your PC uses to connect. It holds no name, email address or account. Like any internet service, it sees the IP addresses that connect to it, and we use them only to run and protect the service. Your device's certificate comes from Let's Encrypt, so its address, a random name, appears in public certificate logs. Remote use is read-only, and each phone or browser must be approved on your PC.
- Peer computers (optional). If you approve another RAGScape PC on your network, RAGScape may send it your question and the relevant passages from your documents so it can write the answer. This stays on your local network.
- Outlook (optional, off until you sign in). RAGScape connects your PC directly to Microsoft to read the Outlook emails you choose. See RAGScape for Outlook below.
- Feedback (only when you send it). RAGScape's feedback form sends thruData the email address you type, your message, and basic app details: version, AI model, hardware profile and your PC's name. Your documents aren't included unless you tick "Include diagnostic logs", which attaches recent RAGScape logs. Logs can include file and folder names, your questions, passages from your documents and other details that identify you. We use feedback only to reply to you and fix problems, and delete it once the issue is resolved.
RAGScape for Gmail (browser extension)
RAGScape for Gmail is an extension for Chrome and Edge. It sends the Gmail emails you choose to RAGScape on your own Windows PC.
What it reads, and when
- Nothing, until you agree on the extension's welcome page. Before that, it only tells RAGScape on your PC that the extension is installed, with no Gmail data.
- The emails you choose. When you click the RAGScape button on an email, or in the toolbar popup, and choose to send it or its whole conversation, the extension reads that email from Gmail in full, with its attachments. With "Include attachments" off, RAGScape leaves the attachments out.
- Auto mode, only if you turn it on in the extension's Options. Then, once a minute while your browser is running, it reads Gmail's list of the newest unread emails in the one label you name, and reads each unread email in that label the same way, including those already there when you turn it on, up to 50 a day. Emails with documents attached, and some others, are read through an open Gmail tab rather than in the background. It reads no other label. If your account has moved to another place among the Gmail accounts signed in to the browser, Auto mode checks the same label in the browser's other signed-in Gmail accounts (the first six at most) to find yours again, and discards every list that isn't your account's.
- Status checks. To show a check mark on emails already in RAGScape, it asks RAGScape on your PC about the emails you open, using only their Gmail IDs and your Gmail address, never their content.
- Label names. When you turn Auto mode on, it reads the label names in Gmail's menu to check that your label exists.
- The toolbar popup shows the subject of the conversation you have open.
- Your Gmail sign-in. Requests to Gmail use your browser's existing sign-in. The extension never sees your password and never reads or stores your sign-in cookies.
Where your emails go
- Only to RAGScape on the same PC, through RAGScape's helper program. RAGScape keeps and indexes each email on your PC, like any other document you add.
- The extension sends nothing to thruData or to anyone else. Its only network requests go to Gmail's own servers (mail.google.com, and the address Gmail uses for downloads). It has no analytics, tracking or advertising, and runs no code from the internet.
- If RAGScape isn't running or isn't installed, the extension can save an email as files in your Downloads\RAGScape Inbox folder instead, after asking your permission. RAGScape adds them, and the files are deleted, once it runs. Until then they stay in your Downloads folder, even if you remove the extension.
What the extension keeps in your browser
- Your settings and your agreement.
- For emails saved to Downloads: their Gmail address and ID, and where the files are (file path and download number), to hand them to RAGScape and tidy up afterwards.
- For Auto mode: the label's name, your Gmail address and its place among the browser's Gmail accounts, Gmail's identifier for your mailbox (needed to read the label's emails), the IDs of the emails Auto mode handled, is waiting for or will try again, and today's counts.
- An import log of the last 200 times it sent an email to RAGScape, saved one for it or removed one from it: when, your Gmail address, each email's subject, sender, Gmail ID and Message-ID, how it went and what happened, its folder in RAGScape, and the names of attachments RAGScape didn't index, with why. When an email's own subject can't be read (Gmail wouldn't hand it over, for instance), the conversation's subject shown in Gmail is used. While an email is still being handled (Auto will try it again or read it in a Gmail tab, or it waits in your Downloads folder), its subject, sender and Message-ID are kept for its line in the log: up to 300 emails, for 7 days at most. The log is shown only to you, on the extension's own page.
- RAGScape's connection state, until the browser closes.
- Removing the extension deletes all of this.
Your choices
- Remove an email from RAGScape at any time with its RAGScape button. It stays in Gmail.
- Turn Auto mode on or off in the extension's Options. Auto mode never changes anything in Gmail: it doesn't mark emails read, move them or change their labels.
- Clear the import log at any time (Options ▸ Import log ▸ Open the import log ▸ Clear the log).
- Withdraw your agreement in the extension's Options. The buttons disappear, Auto mode pauses, and the import log is cleared, until you agree again.
- Remove the Downloads permission in the extension's Options.
Permissions it uses
- Gmail (mail.google.com): to show the button and read the emails described above.
- Native messaging: to hand emails to RAGScape on your PC.
- Storage: for what the extension keeps, listed above.
- Scripting: after the extension is installed or updated, to put its own Gmail script back into Gmail tabs that were already open (and into a Gmail tab where it stopped responding), so you don't have to reload Gmail. It adds only the extension's own files, and only to Gmail.
- Alarms: for Auto mode's check once a minute, and to hand saved emails to RAGScape once it runs.
- Offscreen document: to create the file when an email is saved to Downloads.
- Downloads (optional; asked for when an email first needs saving and when you turn on Auto mode): to save emails to Downloads\RAGScape Inbox, find those files again, and tidy the download list afterwards.
Limited Use
RAGScape for Gmail's use of information received from Gmail adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. It uses what it reads only to send your emails to RAGScape on your PC. It never sells or shares it, and never uses it for advertising or to determine creditworthiness.
Changes
If the extension's handling of your data changes, the extension will tell you before the change applies, and ask for your agreement again where needed.
RAGScape for Outlook
RAGScape for Outlook is part of the RAGScape app. It copies the Outlook emails you choose into RAGScape on your own Windows PC. It works with Microsoft 365 work or school mailboxes and Outlook.com accounts, one mailbox at a time, and only your own.
What it reads, and when
- Nothing, until you sign in to your Microsoft account in RAGScape (Sources ▸ Outlook) and choose a category.
- The emails you choose: emails you give that category, in any version of Outlook. Giving it to a conversation sends the whole conversation. Each email is read in full, with its attachments.
- Every 2 minutes while RAGScape is running, it asks Microsoft for emails carrying that category, up to 25 at a time, and catches up after RAGScape has been closed. It skips drafts, Deleted Items and Junk.
- Nothing else. Besides those emails, it reads only your name and email address, to show which account is connected. It has no access to your contacts, calendar or files.
Where your emails go
Directly from Microsoft to RAGScape on your PC. Nothing passes through thruData, and we can't see your email. RAGScape stores each email and its attachments on your PC, like any other document you add.
What RAGScape keeps for Outlook
- Your Microsoft sign-in, held by Windows and in an encrypted file on your PC. RAGScape never sees or stores your password.
- Your category and settings, and the IDs of emails already sent, so none is sent twice.
- An import log of the newest 200 emails it added: the time, subject and result, and what happened to each attachment. It's shown only on the Outlook card.
Your choices
- Pause or delete the Outlook source at any time in RAGScape. Pausing keeps you signed in. Deleting it signs RAGScape out and forgets which emails were sent, along with the import log. Emails already added stay in RAGScape until you delete them there.
- Remove an email from RAGScape at any time. Removing the category or deleting the email in Outlook doesn't remove it from RAGScape.
- RAGScape never changes your emails: it doesn't mark them read, move them or change their categories.
Microsoft permissions it asks for
- Read your profile: to show which account is connected.
- Read your mail: to read the emails you categorize.
- Stay signed in: so checks keep working without signing in again.
- Read and write mailbox settings: only if you click "Create it for me", to add your RAGScape category to Outlook's category list. Microsoft asks you first. It's the only change RAGScape ever makes to your mailbox.
